Valero Benicia Refinery today presented the Benicia Community Action Council a check in the amount of $76,000 representing the proceeds from their annual ‘Sporting Clays’ fundraiser held in August. An equal amount was presented at the same time to Rebuilding Together Solano County.
Viola Robertson, Executive Director of the Benicia CAC, expressed the agency's gratitude to Josh Tulino, Vice President and Refinery Manager of Valero.
According to Robertson, Valero has been a steadfast and loyal supporter of the BCAC for many years now.
The funds generated by the event have been earmarked for the Community Action Council’s “Senior Meal Program” which delivers hot meals to Benicia seniors five days a week. Additionally, the funds will cover food and gift cards which will be distributed to BCAC’s clients.
“It is very heartwarming that Rebuilding Together Solano County, Valero Benicia Refinery and Benicia CAC can join together to make a lasting and visible difference for those in need in Solano County via this fund-raising event. Valero Benicia Refinery has been an active supporter of RTSC since our inception in 2009 – providing volunteers, inkind donations, as well as funding support to allow our low-income veteran, senior and disabled residents to remain in their own homes – safely and with dignity” said Elizabeth Hoffman, Executive Director, Rebuilding Together Solano County.
Benicia Community Action Council is an "umbrella" agency providing vital assistance and relief to the community. It offers guidance, resources and referrals to Benicians striving for self-sufficiency and has been doing so since 1967.
Rebuilding Together (RTSC) has provided services in Solano County since June 2009. With more than 12,000 volunteers, RTSC has facilitated necessary home repairs for 40 low-income veteran, senior or disabled homeowners. Also, RTSC has held more than 50 community facility workdays in Benicia, Fairfield, Rio Vista, Suisun City, Vacaville and Vallejo. In addition, RTSC has installed more than 4,000 smoke and 2,400 carbon monoxide alarms for low-income Solano County homeowners. RTSC also oversees several food assistance programs in the County.
